Nobody checks this until it’s broken

Payment systems are one of those things businesses set up once and never look at again, until a customer complains their card wouldn’t go through, or a payment silently failed and nobody noticed for a week.

The common failure points

A checkout page that doesn’t work right on mobile, where most of your customers actually are. Payment options that don’t match what your customers actually use. Failed transactions that don’t trigger any alert, so you find out from an annoyed customer instead of your own system.

Why this costs more than people think

A customer who hits a payment error once often just leaves and doesn’t come back to try again. You don’t see that lost sale in any report, it just quietly doesn’t happen. Multiply that across every visitor who hits the same friction and it adds up fast.

The fix

Test your own checkout regularly, on a phone, not just a desktop. Set up real alerts for failed payments so you know immediately, not a week later. Make sure the payment methods you offer actually match what your customers want to use.
