Fifty leads and two customers isn’t a lead problem
I hear “we need more leads” constantly, and here’s the thing, when you actually look at the numbers, a lot of businesses already have enough leads. They’re just not closing them. Fifty inquiries a month and two signed customers isn’t a volume problem, it’s a conversion problem wearing a lead-gen costume.
Where the close rate actually breaks
Slow follow-up (the person hired whoever answered first). A quote process that takes too long. No follow-up at all after the initial quote. Pricing that’s unclear until the very end, creating sticker shock. All of these are fixable without spending another dollar on leads.
Know your number
If you can’t say what percentage of your inquiries become paying customers, you genuinely don’t know whether your marketing is working or not. Everything else is guessing.
Fix the bucket before you fill it
Mi abuela used to say you can’t carry water in a basket. Same idea. More leads poured into a leaky close process just means more waste, not more revenue. Fix the close rate first, then scale the leads.
