"Build Your Own Website - It's Super Easy!"
Everyone and their cousin these days thinks all you need to do to build your own website is just some pictures, a headline, and a button. Toss ’em on a screen, hit publish, bada bing, you’re in business, right? Wrong.
When I started out, I figured I didn’t need help. I was good with a mouse, had a halfway decent eye for color, and figured, “Hey, I’ll build my site myself and pocket the savings.”
Build your own website tools give you the basics, but that’s not enough to compete.
Customers couldn’t find me on Google. The site was slower than molasses. I had no contact form, no call to action, and no clue how bad it really was until a buddy of mine pointed out my bounce rate was through the roof.
Build your own website solutions are like microwave pizza. Sure, it looks edible. But when you take a bite, you realize you’re better off spending the extra dough.
5 Reasons Why You Shouldn't Build Your Own Website
So if you’re serious about your business, pull up a chair and listen up. Here’s 5 reasons why building your own website is one of the most expensive “free” decisions you’ll ever make.
5. You’ll Miss the Money-Making Moves
Most build your own website platforms don’t have a clear sales journey. They are all flash, no function. They often miss the real conversion strategies, clear calls to action, a guided customer journey, and a proper sales funnel. I’ve seen too many sites where the visitor lands, looks around for two seconds, and leaves because they don’t know what to do next.
You might think a nice photo of your storefront and your phone number is enough, but if there’s no logical flow, no incentive to act, no visual priority, people bounce. A real designer builds with goals in mind, turning a visitor into a lead, and a lead into a paying customer.
4. SEO? What's That?
SEO isn’t just stuffing keywords into paragraphs. It’s a science – page speed, alt text, canonical tags, internal linking, URL structure, and mobile optimization. Most drag-and-drop builders butcher your site structure so bad, Google doesn’t know what it’s looking at.
Even if you’re the best chicken shawarma place in town (hey Kabobji!), if your site doesn’t show up in search results, you’re invisible. Most DIY tools don’t offer deep control over metadata or sitemap submission. You’re basically playing digital hide and seek with your customers.
3. Mobile Nightmare
So you build your own website on a desktop, it looks decent. Then someone checks it on their phone, and it’s a total trainwreck. Overlapping text, images that take up the whole screen, buttons you need tweezers to press.
Responsive design isn’t optional anymore – it’s survival. A mobile mess makes you look outdated and unprofessional, and it tells the customer one thing: “We cut corners.” That’s not the first impression you want to give.
2. Time is Money
The time you spend googling “how to move a button” or “why my image won’t center” could be spent actually running your business. And even after 10 hours of fiddling, it still doesn’t look right.
Now you’re burning midnight oil to build a site you’ll probably end up replacing anyway. Meanwhile, a professional could’ve had you up and running in half the time with twice the results.
1. First Impressions Last Forever
You have five seconds to convince a visitor that your business is legit. That’s it. A clunky design, pixelated, stretched-out photos, or mismatched fonts and colors and it’s over. That trust is gone.
I once met a business owner who had lime green text on a black background. Said it “stood out.” Yeah, it did…like a sore thumb. His bounce rate was through the roof. We gave him a redesign and his calls doubled in the first week alone.
Final Thought: Leave It to the Pros
Your website isn’t a hobby project. It’s your 24/7 storefront, salesperson, and brand ambassador. Don’t leave it in the hands of a drag-and-drop template with stock photos and guesswork.
You wouldn’t trust your cousin Paulie to do heart surgery just ’cause he watched Grey’s Anatomy. So don’t trust a DIY website builder to grow your business.
Do it right the first time, or give me a call, and I’ll show you how it’s done.
